Hello, hello, hello.
Hello Stranger! Long time no see! It's been a while! All that jazz. I have returned.
You might be wondering where I have been for the past year and what I have been doing to occupy my time, and this post will hopefully sum some of that up!
So for the past year, from September to very recently, I have been studying on an Art Foundation course. And in all honesty, it has been one of the greatest opportunities and experiences I have had; I've learnt so much, experimented with my skills and interests and produced work I would never have dreamed of ever creating.
At the end of the year, we have an exhibition of our project work to display and celebrate. Now that it is all over, I have more time on my hands than I know what to do with, so I'm deciding to write and share some of the work, thoughts and ideas I have had during my Final Major Project.
My first piece, which if anybody follows my Instagram (@connellaoife), you may have seen, are these comic book covers. So I began exploring female stereotypes in comic books and as it developed, it became pretty feminist based. This led me to producing this series of comic book covers representing feminist issues, each cover features a different character, representing a different issue.
So the next piece that was part of my exhibition, was this series of photographs which explored stereotypes and sexism. I made cut-out speech bubbles and used mannequin heads to create these photographs. I like that there's really something off and creepy about how realistic they look. This was a pretty fun shoot, but with there being two of us in the photos (Dale & I), we relied on the camera timer, which required a certain amount of patience.
I also made a film as part of my exhibition work but unfortunately I'm not able to share that anywhere. The film was a care-free, liberated compilation of clips of myself, dancing to feel-good songs in different locations, as my feminist superhero character.
As the same character, I did a mini photoshoot using action figures and photographing perspective with Batman and Superman. These were really difficult to achieve, but the outcomes are very interesting and exciting, in my opinion.
The two images below are from the end of the night after my exhibition. In the first image, you can see the film projected on the wall of my studio, as well as my superhero cape hung up next to a small shelf. In the second, a close up of the shelf, this was filled with miniatures from the action figure photo shoots I did.
Outfit
I wore this cute Paul Smith 'Wise Up' top with high-waisted, navy H&M stretchy trousers. I paired the outfit with the most amazing blue metallic Next loafers, opted for bright green eyeshadow which still remained fairly subtle, and fun, multi-coloured pom pom earrings from Forever 21.
I hope you have enjoyed looking through some of my work, hearing about what I have done, and seeing what I have worn.
Hope to see you again very soon!
